On April 11, 2023, Dr. He Hailong from Technical University of Munich, Germany, was invited to conduct academic exchanges at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and delivered an academic report titled "Photoacoustic Skin Imaging System and Its Clinical Applications". Photoacoustic imaging is a new type of non-invasive and non-ionizing biological imaging technology. It combines the advantages of optical imaging and ultrasonic imaging. By utilizing the photoacoustic effect induced by short-pulse lasers in biological tissues to generate ultrasonic signals, it can break through the limitations of pure optical imaging technology in terms of imaging depth and spatial resolution, and thus achieve high spatial resolution and high optical contrast imaging of deep tissues. In recent years, photoacoustic imaging has been widely applied in the field of biomedical research, such as tumor diagnosis, neuroscience, cardiology, etc. In this report, Dr. He Hailong introduced the work of his team in recent years on the development of core components of medical photoacoustic imaging systems, innovation in instrument technology, and clinical application transformation, including: developing a high-resolution human photoacoustic skin imager with a large tissue penetration depth, enabling high-resolution three-dimensional photoacoustic structural imaging of human skin; In response to the urgent needs of clinical diagnosis and treatment, clinical studies have been carried out, including non-invasive diagnosis of human melanoma tumors and monitoring of diabetic skin vascular lesions.

Personal Profiles: He Hailong is the leader of the research group at the Translational Medicine Center of Technical University of Munich, Germany. He obtained his doctorate degree from the School of Electrical Engineering, Technical University of Munich, studying under Professor Vasilis Ntziachristos, a renowned scholar in the field of international biophotonics. He is mainly engaged in the research on the development of medical photoacoustic imaging instruments and their clinical applications. He has published more than 20 SCI journal papers and conference papers. Among them, as the first author, he has published 9 SCI papers in well-known international journals in the fields of optics and medical imaging, such as *Nature Communications*, *IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging*, and *Optics Letters*. He has presided over and participated in a number of innovation fund projects of Germany and the European Union. The achievements of the photoacoustic imaging instruments he participated in developing have been commercially transformed.
