Professor Antonius Franciscus Wilhel van der Steen, an academician of both the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Engineering, visited Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology for academic exchanges on May 31, 2019. He delivered an academic report titled "A bird's eye view on current developments in cardiovascular imaging and therapy". The report mainly introduced several cardiovascular imaging technologies. For example, ultrasonic detection of heart diseases, combined with deep learning, can be used to detect the number, age and fetal position of fetuses during pregnancy. Photoacoustic imaging technology can obtain images of blood vessels in human brain tumors. Vascular interventional photoacoustic and ultrasonic technologies, currently mainly combined with near-infrared spectroscopy, are used for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Vascular interventional photoacoustic liquid imaging technology can be used to monitor interventional or ablation treatment of coronary blood vessels, and so on.

Professor Antonius Franciscus Wilhelmus van der Steen is an academician of both the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Engineering. He is also a renowned scholar in the international fields of intravascular ultrasound and intravascular optical imaging. In addition, Professor Antonius van der Steen serves as a member of the Science Committee of several international conferences, including the IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, the European Society of Cardiology, and the International Conference on Ultrasonic Microscopy Imaging. He was the former Chairman of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) Technology Foundation, and since 2018, he has been serving as the Chairman of Medical Delta.
