On August 4, 2022, Researcher Gao Fei from ShanghaiTech University was invited to Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology for academic exchanges and delivered an academic report titled "Photoacoustic Imaging: Vision That Can Be Heard". As one of the fastest-growing new biomedical imaging technologies, photoacoustic imaging technology has developed rapidly in the past more than a decade. Nevertheless, compared with other widely used medical imaging technologies (such as MRI, CT, and ultrasound), if photoacoustic imaging is to be promoted more quickly and effectively to large-scale clinical applications, it still faces many challenges, while there are also numerous opportunities. In this lecture, Researcher Gao Fei provided a detailed introduction to the relevant research progress of the Hybrid Imaging System Laboratory at ShanghaiTech University in terms of the physical effects and methods of photoacoustic imaging technology, miniaturized hardware technology, development of intelligent algorithms, and clinical applications.

Personal Introduction:
Gao Fei received a Bachelor's degree in Microelectronics from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2009 and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in 2015. He engaged in postdoctoral research work at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University in the United States from 2015 to 2016. In January 2017, he joined the School of Information Science and Technology at ShanghaiTech University as an Assistant Professor, Researcher, and Ph.D. supervisor on a full-time basis and established the Hybrid Imaging System Laboratory (HISLab, website: www.hislab.cn). During his Ph.D. studies, he was awarded the Chinese National Scholarship for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad in 2014. His Ph.D. thesis won the Springer Thesis Award in 2016, and he was selected as a Distinguished Professor (Eastern Scholar) in Shanghai in 2017. Currently, he serves as an editorial board member of the flagship journal in the photoacoustic field, *Photoacoustics* (IF: 9.6), and is a guest editor for journals such as IEEE JERM, Applied Science, Electronics, and Frontiers in Med. Tech.. He has also served as the session chair for several international conferences such as the IEEE EMBC. He has been invited to be a reviewer for more than 40 high-level academic journals, including Science Advances and Nature Communications. He has published more than 130 academic papers in internationally renowned journals and conferences, with over 2,000 citations on Google Scholar (h-index = 27, i10-index = 51). One of his papers on photoacoustic image reconstruction was selected as an oral presentation at MICCAI 2019 (with an acceptance rate of 3%). Three papers on photoacoustic imaging circuit design were respectively selected as top papers at IEEE ISCAS 2019, BioCAS 2019, and ISCAS 2021, and he was invited to contribute to IEEE Transactions. His research interests cover the intersection and integration of multiple disciplines, including the study of the mechanism of photoacoustic hybrid imaging, medical imaging circuits, system and algorithm design, as well as innovation research driven by clinical needs.
